Toward a Sustainable Economy

What would a sustainable economy look like? What would you measure and what would you tax to keep gov going if not growth?
Currently we measure GDP gross domestic product... looking at growth of such.. but that means that if a mom stays home she is not adding to the GDP.. if we get sick we are.. if we grow our own food we are not.. think about it

Raya says - A sustainable economy would be counted by the health and happiness of their populous. You could look at surveys on contentment, family involvement, stats on numbers of people in poverty, children born out of wedlock, rates of diseases, cancers, deaths in childbirth (poor CA, they would score low here) and amounts of asthma, fresh air, and community... See More gatherings.....

Using valid stats to the value of a country and what it is doing would go a long way towards making correct public policies and programs.

I will add more to this post as more input and thought comes in..
